Nicolas Ménard Rockets You to “Somewhere”
Nicolas Ménard, a graphic designer from Montreal, moved to London last year to complete an MA in animation at the Royal College of Art where he drew inspiration for this striking short film from his homesickness and the ongoing breakup with the girlfriend he left behind.
“When I arrived in London I had this constant, weird feeling of having left a part of me behind; as if part of me was still living my old life in Canada. I wanted to illustrate this feeling that comes with immigration in the film — and the feeling of missing someone in the distance — so I came up with the idea of an astronaut leaving his arm to his girlfriend. The film was made using Adobe Flash for the rough animation, Adobe Photoshop for cleaning and Adobe After Effects for post-production.”
Additional animation: Anne-Louise Erambert, Louise Druelle, Oliver Hamilton, James Hatley
Music and sound: Rich Vreeland
