From the release:
Versus has launched “We Are Versus”, a new project that celebrates the people, stories, and shared spirit behind today’s creative industry. The project began with a simple question: What does creativity mean to you? It evolved into a living, collective portrait of the community that powers it, captured through a short film and a hardback book.
To create the piece, Versus installed a working phone line and vintage answering machine in its office, inviting collaborators, clients, and peers from across the creative landscape to call in and share their thoughts. The team expected a handful of responses. Instead, hundreds of messages poured in from around the world, some funny, some raw, some deeply personal. One longtime client called to reflect on a career in creativity, another caller freestyled a rap. Many spoke about exhaustion, hope, and the drive to keep making. Most didn’t leave their names.
Those anonymous voices became the emotional backbone of We Are Versus. The short film weaves their messages into a layered visual collage of photography, design, and Versus’ own work, capturing not just what creatives make but why they make. The accompanying 400-page book extends the idea in physical form, pairing behind-the-scenes imagery and studio moments with minimal text to create a tactile record of process and collaboration.
“We wanted to create something bigger than ourselves,” says Executive Creative Director Justin Barnes. “We Are Versus isn’t about a single studio, it’s about the collective voice of creativity and the people who keep it alive.”
The project arrives at a moment when many in the industry are reflecting on what’s next. For Versus, the answer is simple: turn the mic outward, listen, and remember that creativity remains a shared act.
We Are Versus stands as both a time capsule and a rallying cry for the creative community, a reminder that behind every frame, design, and campaign are real people who make meaning from imagination.
