Psyop welcomes French directing collective Meat Dept., bringing their award-winning visual language and distinct, hyper-tactile aesthetic into Psyop’s expanding global ecosystem of talent.
Known for blending technical precision with a singular artistic perspective, Meat Dept. has established a reputation for building bespoke AI pipelines that power their cinematic, character-driven worlds alongside stylized handcrafted elements. From their dystopian episode of Netflix’s ‘Love, Death & Robots’ to the fully 3D title sequence for HBO’s ‘Duster’, their work demonstrates a sophisticated command of digital artistry while maintaining a clear and recognizable visual identity.
“Meat Dept. has developed a truly distinctive voice,” said Andrew Linsk, EP and Head of Global Partnerships at Psyop. “Their approach treats technology as a partner in the narrative process, their willingness to experiment with a forward-facing mindset aligns closely with Psyop’s vision for the future.”
Founded by David Nicolas and Kevin Van Der Meiren who first connected during the production of Quentin Dupieux’s ‘Rubber’, Meat Dept. evolved from early collaborations in music videos and experimental digital art into a focused studio grounded in research and technical innovation.
“We’ve always thought of Meat Dept. as a laboratory,” the duo shared. “Our goal is not simply to adopt new tools, but to shape them into something that serves our goals. What excites us most about joining Psyop is the shared respect for creativity without limits. This partnership gives us the opportunity to scale the work while staying true to what makes it ours.”
As they continue advancing hybrid pipelines that merge human-made assets with AI-assisted processes, Meat Dept. is refining a methodology that bridges traditional craft with the rapidly evolving capabilities of generative technology. Central to their workflow is thorough R&D, testing workflows, reverse-engineering tools and forming bespoke systems tailored to each project. New techniques are prototyped until the form fully supports the idea.
With Meat Dept. now part of the fold, Psyop reinforces its long-standing commitment to backing bold visionaries who view technology as a creative frontier. The partnership reflects the two studios’ shared ambition of carving out new forms of visual expression where emerging tools and traditional artistry work in tandem to shape the next generation of storytelling and design.
