Lux Aeterna, the multi-award-winning independent VFX and creative studio, has appointed Richard Stay as Compositing Supervisor, strengthening its senior VFX team as the studio continues to expand its work across film, high-end television, documentary and unscripted storytelling.

With more than 35 years in the entertainment industry, Stay brings extensive experience across visual effects, compositing and production, with credits spanning major feature films and shows.

“Richard brings an incredible depth of knowledge, both creatively and technically, as well as a real understanding of what it takes to lead teams and deliver ambitious work,” says Rob Hifle, Founder and Director, Lux Aeterna. “He’s joining us at an exciting time for the studio, with a strong slate of projects ahead, and we’re delighted to have him on board.”

Stay began his VFX career at Rhythm & Hues in Los Angeles in 2001 before moving to the UK in 2004 to work as a matte painter at Vanguard Animation. He subsequently spent 16 years at Double Negative/DNEG, progressing through its compositing department and working across major film and television productions.

During his time at DNEG, Stay spent two years in Mumbai as DFX Supervisor, working on feature films including Life, Justice League and Bohemian Rhapsody. His credits also include the Academy Award-winning Ex Machina. Towards the end of his time at the studio, he supervised VFX work on Jodie Whittaker’s final series of Doctor Who.

Stay later joined Absolute Post as VFX Supervisor, where he delivered projects for clients including Netflix, Amazon and Sky, combining hands-on creative and technical expertise with extensive experience in client liaison, crew management and project delivery.

In his new role as Compositing Supervisor, Stay will work across Lux Aeterna’s growing slate, overseeing compositing teams and helping deliver upcoming projects for clients including the BBC and Amazon.

“I’m happy to bring my many years of experience, positive outlook – and best dad jokes – to Lux Aeterna, and to be joining the studio in the beautiful city of Bristol at a busy and exciting time for the company,” says Stay. “There are some great projects coming down the line, and I can’t wait to help deliver the high-quality work that Lux Aeterna is known for.”
