From the release:
Chicago-based production company Demo Duck is adding long-form documentary-style videos to its ever-growing list of video production services.
Known shorthand as ‘DD Docs,’ this production approach uses expanded interviews, site visits, ambient audio capture on-location, slice-of-life B-roll, and more to help brands tell a deeper story. The decision to offer this production style as a formal option aligns with a larger cultural moment—the need for authenticity.
“Between AI and staged UGC videos, customers are losing trust in what they’re viewing,” said Cody Benefiel, Demo Duck’s Live-Action Head of Production. “A documentary-style video is the perfect marketing tool for this moment. It offers a way to showcase real, human stories and help people have a deeper understanding of your brand or organization.”
Demo Duck is certainly no stranger to live-action video productions, as that’s been one of the company’s core offerings over the last 15 years. And along the way, the company has seen the power of bringing the artful storytelling approach of the documentary to more classic marketing video needs—testimonial videos and explainer videos.
“Now audiences really want to understand the why or how of an organization, not just the what,” said Benefiel. “Over the years, we started collecting little docu-style pieces during more traditional live-action shoots. B-roll. Ambient audio. And then integrated them into our final edit. We found that these small elements brought a rich depth to, say, a traditional testimonial video. With DD Docs, we can expand on this approach and humanize brands and organizations in a fresh way.”
DD Docs is another one of the recent exciting changes happening at Demo Duck. Team members have undergone recent advancements and title changes. These include Marissa Davis, Senior Producer, Jake Allen, Motion Director, Ossian Mendoza, Design Director, Nick Roth, Technical Director, Bailey Williams, Live-Action Director and Jarrett Hothan, Narrative Director.
