Universal Everything has created Super You, an Augmented Reality (AR) app which puts AR costumes and the latest body tracking technology into the hands of creators.

Super You allows iPhone* and iPad creators to experiment with the human form by using ARKit 3’s body tracking technology to transform a friend’s body in real-time using AR.

To play, creators aim their camera at a friend to see them transform and swipe to choose from a curated collection of 11 AR costumes, which also sample the colors of the clothes they are wearing. Creators can film their Super You taking a walk in the park, dancing in the kitchen or relaxing on the sofa and share their films directly from the device’s gallery to social media, using the hashtag #SuperYouAR to join in with this collaborative artwork.

Universal Everything founder Matt Pyke: “This project combines our fascination for mixing timeless figurative representation with emerging technologies to create new forms of soulful digital expressions. By democratizing the artwork through releasing this app to the public, we look forward to seeing the crazy, funny, inventive unexpected results”.

The studio plans to further develop the app following launch, adding new costumes and potentially functionality which enables creators to manipulate costumes in more detail.

The Super You AR app was developed and animated by Universal Everything as part of their “Future Human” art series, the studio’s ongoing exploration into artificial forms whose movements feel visceral, alive, and un-synthesized.

The ‘Super You’ app was developed in Unity, using Apple ARKit 3.5 and its body tracking technology.

*Super You is compatible with Apple devices which have the A12 and A13 chip. These are currently the iPhone XS, XR, iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, iPhone SE (2020) and iPad Pro (2019, 3rd generation), running iOS 13 or above.
