1stAveMachine Signs Barcelona Directing Collective Brut

From the release:

Storytelling production company 1stAveMachine has amplified its already robust, multi-award-winning global roster by welcoming Barcelona-based directing collective, Brut.

Founded by 1stAve director/ECD Martin Allais (Battlescar) and Executive Producer Maud Beckers (formerly of Not to Scale), Brut was launched to not only bring a fresh production perspective through mixed media but to spotlight creative production in Barcelona and form new collaborations beyond traditional channels in the process.

With an emphasis on innovation, imagination, and versatility, Brut’s distinguished, highly curated collective canvasses the spectrum of animation and motion graphics. Directing duo Makmac, for instance, crafts striking sculptural CG designs for clients like Converse, Toyota, Zara, and MTV as well as revered music festivals including Sonar and Lapsus. Meanwhile, both Maliboo and Dedo Ciego brandish their talents in animation and tactile graphics for music videos like the Gold Laus-winning “Bailair” and JMII and “Un I Mig” from Catalonian band La Iaia.

Directing pair BLND has created playful stop-motion and illustration for Converse and Amazon Launchpad and recently collaborated with Mediamonks to make the Google Doodle that celebrated the tech giant’s 20th anniversary. 2D animation team Device has brought to life to projects for Spotify, American Express and John Carpenter’s Favorite Music Moments for Primavera Sound, while pioneering motion designer/3D artist Tavo has collaborated with agencies, festivals, the ADC Awards and brands like Nike and Nissan.

According to founders Allais and Beckers, Brut’s diverse array of directors are driven by a shared love of the moving image, which allows for the collective to convey both a unified and unique voice to any project. “Each director really has their own talent, style, and technique to contribute, much like a soccer team. We see this as one of our strongest assets due to the fact that we can work as one voice or in multiple with the directors we have.”

Having now signed with 1stAveMachine, Brut has found an ideal, like-minded company that provides ample room for visual exploration and a potent platform to showcase its directing capabilities. “1stAve is known for its excellence in bringing creative solutions to production challenges,” Allais and Beckers note. “These often involve collaborations between directors to create these solutions because in many cases, 1+1=3.

Brut has this same philosophy as we can function as a collective while respecting the talent and individuality of every member of the team. And as we aim to continue collaborating with our directors, pushing the limits of style between digital media and handmade craft, and leveraging new tools that come out every day, we want opportunities to expand our palette. 1stAve effectively provides those.”

With its abundance of inventive talent, its founders’ impressive production pedigree and industry bonafides including a Bronze Cannes Lions for work on Samsung’s “Holiday Dreams”, Brut is a highly valuable addition to 1stAveMachine according to Partner Sam Penfield. “We are excited to formalize this relationship. We have been working with Martin Allais for several years now and to have him helm this wonderful group of talent – many of which we already know and love – is the next logical step in the evolution of our relationship. We look forward to making some wonderful art together.”
