Riff Raff Signs Johnny Kelly to Directing Roster

From the release:

Johnny Kelly is an Oscar-nominated director whose work is full of character and personality. He brings a playful, precise approach to craft and a real sense of care to every frame.

When Johnny started making comics and puppets as a weedy teenage outcast he never dared dream it would lead to multiple Cannes Grand Prixs and singular Oscar Nominations. Now, as a weedy adult outcast, he dreams big using every script-writing, filmmaking, and technical tool he can get his hands on.

His work spans puppetry, Stop Motion, illustration, and everything in between. He directed the stop-motion film Back to the Start for Chipotle, which won the Film Grand Prix at Cannes Lions, and he has served on juries for D&AD, AICP, and British Arrows. A proud member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale, Johnny brings a playful, inventive approach to every project he touches.

He also directed the acclaimed animated short film, Retirement Plan, that has captivated audiences worldwide, earning top honors at SXSW and the Palm Springs International ShortFest, and securing an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short Film.

Johnny said “Stupidly excited I get to work alongside the superbrains at Riff Raff. I’ve a flaming blizzard of creative ambitions for my commercial work and this is the perfect place to do it, thanks for having me Riff Raffers.”

Joint Global Managing Partner Tracey Cooper says “I have followed Johnny’s Career for many years now. I love how his work is equal parts heartbreaking and hilarious, his absolute dedication to the craft and how his DNA is apparent in every frame. Tickled pink that we now get to do more of it together.”
