Antibody Confirms “You Are Dead” in New Marathon Edit

In the summer of 2023, Antibody dropped the groundbreaking reveal trailer for Bungie’s team-based shooter Marathon, and now, after the game’s launch they’re back with a striking series of cutscenes and trailer elements.

Patrick Clair, co-founder/CD at Antibody: The aesthetic that Bungie has developed is like nothing else we’ve encountered in the video game realm. The rendering is cutting edge, but the style is an evolution of graphic cues pioneered by Designer’s Republic and their ilk through the 90s and early 21st century.

“This graphic minimalism was balanced by an utterly maximalist approach to color, a wild decadence of pure hues and saturated tones.”

This was the stuff that was oozing through the culture in the years we went to design school, and mining it for inspiration was a dream come true.

Dieter Rams said “as little design as possible”, and we tried to take that to heart as we cut back and back until just the pixelated spine of design concepts remained.

However, this graphic minimalism was balanced by an utterly maximalist approach to color, a wild decadence of pure hues and saturated tones. Raw vector graphics render lethal violence on a loop, while cheeky AIs taunt like Djinn from the shadows. This collaboration scratched a graphic itch deep in our soul.
