Hong Kong animation studio Morning Giants just dropped us their riveting new CG work for a watch collaboration marking the 10th anniversary of Kojima, the pioneering Japanese video game developer and film production studio.
Creative directed by company founder Hideo Kojima and art director/lead character designer Yoji Shinkawa, the timepiece is manufactured by Hong Kong-based Anicorn Watches and features Kojima’s astronaut mascot Ludens.
“Our challenge was to visually connect the Ludens character and the timepiece without overshadowing the watch itself.”
Yiko Li, co-founder/CD at Morning Giants Studio: “Inspired by the Ludens EVA (Extra-Vehicular Activity) suit, the timepiece carries forward the concept of an “EVA on the wrist”. Our challenge was to visually connect the Ludens character and the timepiece without overshadowing the watch itself.
To achieve this, we utilized a conceptual X-ray transition. By visually penetrating Ludens’ structural framework, we created a seamless bridge that naturally guides the audience’s focus from the suit’s intricate anatomy directly into the precise components of the watch.
Achieving a photo-realistic render for Ludens required extensive R&D. Furthermore, to drive the intense motion graphics rhythm, we focused heavily on dynamic camera work, prioritizing speed and breakthrough transitions to maximize the visual impact.
