Wonderfully eccentric character work here from Yukfoo Animation and director Alex Dron in Auckland for the first TV campaign from Irish non-alcoholic beer brand Fierce Mild thru Dublin agency The Public House.
Alex Dron: “This spot is the result of Fierce Mild winning the inaugural Love Irish Food × Sky Media Taste of TV Fund. As part of this win, they were awarded a fully-funded TV campaign and media investment to bring the brand’s story to screens nationwide.
“The plan was to highlight the character of the non-alcoholic beer by showing their mascot letting his personality out in everyday situations.”
“It turns out creativity ferments in ironic conditions. Yukfoo EP Alan Dickson and Public House CD, Colin Hart, first discussed the animation over a glass of wine at Annecy. The plan was to highlight the character of the non-alcoholic beer by showing their mascot letting his personality out in everyday situations.
“Despite the product being non-alcoholic, it was a requirement the animation not appeal to children. The solutions for this were multi-faceted, for example, using smaller eyes and mouths, keeping out of fun kid environments, and not doing activities that might traditionally be for young people. The relaxed brand colors were perfect for the brief too.
“Another consideration was the budget. We needed a simple approach that was effective to execute economically. As always, 2D rigged animation worked well for this and it was paired with simple background designs.”
