Here’s How Tim Fox & Final Frontier Brought Back The Maxx

Join director Tim Fox (freshly signed by Final Frontier) as he walks us thru the creative process behind his tribute to Sam Kieth’s 90s indie comic book anti-hero The Maxx, who also starred in his own 13-episode animated series on MTV.

Tim Fox: “Translating comic books to the screen has always been a challenge, and The Maxx was probably one of the hardest. The series was much more layered with subtext and meaning than the visuals let on, which is why it resonated with fans for so long.

“Aesthetics are probably the easiest part. Getting the tone and visual language right is the harder part. The comic writer and artist have a real intention when creating the world and setting the mood, and to me it’s important to translate that feeling faithfully.”

“Translating comic books to the screen has always been a challenge, and The Maxx was probably one of the hardest.”

Gus Karam, EP/partner at Final Frontier: “Supporting Tim’s vision wasn’t a strategic decision. It was instinctive. We believe some IPs aren’t meant to be preserved. They are meant to evolve. This short is a glimpse of what that evolution might look like.

“DaHouse Audio, also responsible for the sound for Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham for DC Comics, crafted the film’s sonic landscape, reinforcing the psychological tension between reality and the Outback.”
