Overwatch: Embedding Action in Emotion

The immediate success of Overwatch, Blizzard’s team-based multiplayer first-person shooter (and the company’s first new gaming franchise since StarCraft in 1998), is due in large part to a series of spectacular animated short films.

As we’ve come to expect from top-end game promotion, all the Overwatch films boast feature-quality CG film-making, from design and animation to lighting and rendering.

Less expected is the narrative care taken with two of the shorts, “Hero” and the newest, “The Last Bastion” where the mandatory battle sequences live deep within an emotional storyline.
