“Plastic Dreams” by Klaus Alman

German 3D specialist Klaus Alman takes time out from his studio’s commercial work for a personal and visually poetic exploration of “the wastefulness advertising, modern production, and distribution of goods comprises.”

Klaus Alman: “The plastic bottle seemed ideal to us immediately, as on the one hand it’s an iconic piece of waste and on the other hand it opened up various possibilities to play with simulation, animation, shading, and even classic graphic design.

“For a lot of tasks like modeling, shading, rendering and some RBD sims we relied on the simplicity of Cinema 4D. For technically more advanced parts like our custom condense solver that’s entirely written in VEX, the crumble effect that utilizes FEM or the large scale simulations, we dug deeper into Houdini and found the project a great opportunity to improve our magic wands.”
