Wolfberg and ALIEN studio Scare Off the Scammers

Directing duo Jan Kalvoda and Premysl Ponahly (aka Wolfberg) and Slovak 3D/VFX house ALIEN bring all your scammer fears rampaging to life in this monster-filled spot for Czech bank Komerční banka thru agency VCCP Prague.

Jan Kalvoda and Premysl Ponahly: “Our task was to bring cyber-criminals to life by designing monsters that personify the many threats lurking in our banking systems. The client wanted characters they could fully own, so we were asked to design something unique.

“We first went through several stages, presenting the agency and client with rough drawings while being careful not to resemble any existing monster characters out there. This was a fully analogue approach (no AI-generation).

“Our task was to bring cyber-criminals to life by designing monsters that personify the many threats lurking in our banking systems.”

“Each character had their own special skills: the monster on the phone can make several calls at once, the one that steals your credit cards is an octopus with lots of hands, and the imposter selling tricky loans speaks faster than you can think. The goal was to make them stand out, be easily memorable, and truly one of a kind.

“Eventually, our 2D illustrations were approved, and we were able to develop them into 3D characters. Then we had to make sure they could interact seamlessly with both the environments and the actors. Working together with ALIEN studio, we brought the characters to life using motion capture and then finally, we annihilated them.”
