Athens-based Yeti Pictures (whose Hollywood mini-parody we featured in Stash 165), pivots 180 degrees in their latest passion project, a macabre meditation on the seven deadly sins staged and lit in classical still life compositions.
Tony Zagoraios, CD/founder at Yeti Pictures: “Inspired by horror visuals and title sequences along with our love for heavy metal music, we decided to explore the seven deadly sins through a modern lens — blending still life aesthetics with cutting-edge 3D photorealism.
“We wanted each scene in the film to be a visual poem where greed, lust, envy, and all the sins were to be reimagined not as relics of the past, but as reflections of the world we live in now.
“Every object and composition had to carry double meaning — evoking both the classical sin and its contemporary form.”
“One of the creative challenges was how deeply rooted the sins are in religious and historical iconography. We had to update them to feel relevant today without losing their weight. That means every object and composition had to carry double meaning — evoking both the classical sin and its contemporary form (e.g., envy through luxury brands, lust through current food habits and brands).
“Another challenge in producing SINS was that still life style avoids characters or strong movement, so the emotion and narrative had to be conveyed purely through objects, composition, color, lighting, and transitions. That was also a reason why we chose close up shots with various simulations to give a bit more action and life to our compositions.
“The final challenge was to stage every sin in a way that stood on its own visually and conceptually yet still felt like part of a unified artistic experience. So, even though we had the skull and snake as common elements across the scenes, we focused on consistent color grading, and underlying stylistic threads (lighting, camera movement, noise/grain, tone), in order to bring the anthology together.”
