After a wildly successful run on the festival circuit (60 awards, 254 selections), Au 8ème Jour, the CG short film by five 5th year students at French digital arts school Piktura, is available for your viewing pleasure.
Directed and animated by Agathe Sénéchal, Flavie Carin, Elise Debruyne, Alicia Massez, and Théo Duhautois, the eight-minute film (On the 8th Day in English), is rendered in a faux stop-motion style and centers on the idea that the world was created in seven days, but it only took one day to disrupt its balance.
That theme, combined with the non-narrative documentary style, thoughtful shot selection, and hypnotic track by French composer Thomas Peyrounette, is the same powerful formula deployed by director Godfrey Reggio in his landmark 1982 film Koyaanisqatsi with its now classic score by Philip Glass.
