Entropico Locks in the Motion for Google Cloud x Team USA

The design team at Entropico just dropped us the motion reel from the studio’s documentary film produced for Google Cloud and Team USA about the AI used to analyze athlete performance by transforming video footage into data.

Toby Garrow, senior motion designer at Entropico: Motion design was used to tell the parts of the story that could never be captured on film. We needed to visualize the invisible, creating the connecting tissue between the incredible footage the team had shot on site and the UI supplied by Google Cloud.

“We needed to visualize the invisible, creating the connecting tissue between the incredible footage the team had shot on site and the UI.”

This required extensive R&D at the intersection of sports science and data visualization to craft an aesthetic as sophisticated and innovative as the technology itself, all while remaining anchored in Google Cloud’s brand identity.

To achieve this, we harnessed the dot matrix embedded within Gemini’s branding and reimagined it in 3D space, shaping it into functional half-pipes, jumps, and alpine landscapes for the athletes to navigate. We then used depth maps driven by the captured footage, creating a direct visual bridge between real-world action and data.

Finally, these reactive dot landscapes sat alongside Gaussian splats captured on-site. This established a three-tiered visual system where brand elements, depth data, and volumetric captures spoke to each other seamlessly, allowing us to move between different levels of visual complexity with ease.
