Blackmeal Showcases the Joy of Music in Brand Film for Woodbrass (Director’s cut)

CD Vincent Ben Abdellah and the design/animation team at Blackmeal in Nantes, France, wrangle a parade of vibrant characters and styles in this brand film for French online music equipment retailer Woodbrass.

“This film is an ode to music where each character reveals themself through their way of playing. Together, they form a rhythmic and harmonious whole. We explored styles in 3D, stop-motion, and traditional animation. A minimal color code identifies each style to be as striking as possible.

“The first intention was to illustrate the diversity and richness of existing music. We have transcribed it through many graphic styles sometimes using artistic movements directly influenced by music.

“Each instrument is highlighted in an impactful way. Sometimes by an exaggeration of its size, sometimes by the animation itself which supports the way of playing it. The idea was to give the film a playful character to ensure it spoke to a large part of the public.”
