Brooklyn-based director/CD Chris Carboni just released this wonderfully off-kilter musical trailer for Your Memories Remember You, his new adult animated anthology series merging black comedy with surreal 2D animation.
Chris Carboni: “The anthology centers on different worlds facing different apocalypses, each focused on characters trying to hold onto whatever feels most meaningful to them. Tonally, I wanted it to sit somewhere between dark humor, existential storytelling, and musical experimentation — all filtered through a 2D style I could build and control on my own.
“There were definitely creative and technical challenges in taking on something this ambitious as a solo artist. It was my first time developing an episodic narrative, writing original songs and lyrics, and performing them (with a bit of help from AI voice modification).
“Each episode refracts big questions through a different prism: What do we cling to? What do we sacrifice? What’s worth saving from the cosmic dumpster fire?”
“Balancing that with designing and animating everything myself in After Effects and Cinema 4D pushed me into completely new territory, but that constraint ultimately shaped the project’s identity.
“Each episode refracts big questions through a different prism: What do we cling to? What do we sacrifice? What’s worth saving from the cosmic dumpster fire? Blending gallows humor, surreal 2D animation, original genre-bending songs, and the occasional emotional gut-punch, YMRY explores why we bother to care at the end of the world(s).
“I have multiple episodes written, several songs recorded, and additional sequences fully animated, but the future of the series remains open. The trailer functions as a proof-of-concept for what the project could become at scale, and I’d love to explore expanding it with the right creative or financial partners.”
