Classic “Gullwing” Takes Flight in Short Film by João Elias

The passions of the classic car fan and the obsessive CG artist collide in this meticulous flight of fancy starring the 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing by Lisbon CG artist João Elias (aka Briktop).

João Elias: “I always loved this car, and when I first started this project, I didn’t just want to make a car rolling by in the desert, I knew there was a bigger story to tell, it had to fly.

“Following its name legacy, I dived deep into this crazy rollercoaster of assembling car parts, raging through the Bonneville Salt Flats, in order to build a full chassis so the flying body kit could land.

“After this, the rest is music. A symphony of a few animated shots of this beauty gloriously riding through the desert, creating clouds of smoke through the landscape while hearing that amazing engine roaring.”

WOW! What a beautiful video. Amazing production! It made my heart sing! As a former owner of Gullwings in the 1950s and 1960s your video brought back many happy memories of happy and exciting adventures with these cars. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
