Brooklyn-based director and CG artist Wes Cockx says this compilation of recent 3D adventures “grew from a mix of curiosity, technical experimentation, and a desire to understand how form, light, and motion can shape an idea.”
Wes Cockx: “At the end of 2024, I challenged myself to focus all of my personal work on motion rather than relying on still imagery as I had in the past, translating ideas I had in my head into fully realized animation clips.
“I spent a lot of time experimenting with timing, easing, and restraint, and quickly learned that motion is far less forgiving than still imagery.”
“A big focus was learning keyframing and developing an instinct for what good motion actually feels like, while still stumbling upon happy accidents along the way. I spent a lot of time experimenting with timing, easing, and restraint, and quickly learned that motion is far less forgiving than still imagery.
“With stills, it is easy to rely on post or comping to fix issues, which is less feasible with motion, forcing me to be more intentional at every stage. On the technical side, I explored new tools and workflows, including Houdini Copernicus for texture creation, and then bringing those textures into motion.”
