DIY Dramedy: Lope Serrano & Katalyst Berlin Stage Home Reno Horrors for Hornbach

In 2016, German DIY-store Hornbach released this piece of joyful chaos and hammered home their goal to blur the line between advertising and entertainment. Their latest is a masterwork of theatrical dramedy.

The film, complete with a taunting black-clad chorus and award-worthy sound design, was directed by Lope Serrano (CANADA) and produced by Tempomedia thru agency HeimatTBWA\, with Katalyst Berlin handling VFX and post-production. The score was performed by a 40-member orchestra.

From HeimatTBWA\: “On this theatre stage, the time has come for the DIY trades, showcasing AI’s limitations. Almost the entire stage design is built by hand, making it as Hornbach as Hornbach can be. Above all, there’s respect for all those who embark on the journey to their next project, well aware that not everything always goes smoothly.”
