Noodle’s New Short film is “Ripe” for the Picking

CD Doug Alberts and his crew at Noodle in Chicago dial up the whimsy knob to 11 in this new in-house short combining 2D, 3D, and cel animation into a charming and cheerful exploration of pure fun.

Doug Alberts: “Our team wanted to create a personal film that would allow us to experiment with new styles and showcase Noodle’s unique voice. Our goal was to incorporate a variety of motion design techniques into one cohesive short.

“Incorporating this range of styles presented a significant challenge in terms of creating a cohesive look and feel. To address this, we relied on music and sound design (by Jennifer Pague) and match cuts to link the scenes together and make the transitions less jarring.

“We also had the opportunity to experiment with new production techniques, including the use of Cinema 4D’s Hair feature for creating grass. While rendering the 4K frames, we found that the process could take an entire night, but we slowly got our achieved look through those overnight renders.”
