Director/designer Sijin Liu, whose breakout Siri Lee music video we featured on the cover of Stash 175, merges symbolism and surrealism into an eerie and enigmatic film for French-Taiwanese singer Bai yun.
Sijin Liu: “The visual language of the film centers on four symbols: the white ant, representing erosion from within; the hands of the surrounding world, grasping, tightening into shackles; the lily of the valley, and the ladybird, which Bai yun associates with hope.
“The process began with hand-drawn storyboards. Previously managed through prompt adjustments alone, this time the storyboards were fed directly into Dreamina AI, giving the generated motion much greater accuracy and control.
“The entire video was completed in three weeks on a limited budget. Without AI tools, this would have been impossible.”
“Human faces and hands have improved considerably but the team still had to make manual adjustments to match the artist’s likeness in certain shots, but the process is significantly faster than before.
“Insects, however, remain a weak point. Structurally complex, with six legs, antennae, and segmented bodies, they become noticeably harder to render consistently when multiple insects appear in the same frame.
“The team approached this in two ways: rendering at very high resolutions such as 8K to give the model more computational space to work out finer anatomical details, and introducing motion blur through manual compositing, using craft to resolve what the technology could not fully handle on its own.
“The entire video was completed in three weeks on a limited budget. Without AI tools, this would have been impossible.”
