Parallel Reveals More of Its Universe With Beta Release Trailer

Following up last summer’s atmospheric teaser for his new sci-fi IP Parallel, Toronto designer/animator Oscar Mar just dropped us his first full trailer for the franchise that includes a trading card game, comics, and short films.

Oscar Mar: “One of the creative challenges with this cinematic was to escalate tension between two characters that are not in the same room, without having them simply yell at each other, and without exaggerated body language in order to avoid it looking too theatrical.

“The goal was to make it feel like a believable, threatening exchange between two leaders. This was accomplished in part by providing animators and voice actors with specific references, notes, and direction, and by iterating the dialogue until the right words were found. The sound and music obviously also have a big impact on the tension and escalation of events.

“In the end, with none of the main characters backing off, the situation leads to the planning for a battle – which ends up being the tutorial for the game.

“On the technical side, the production required a lot of logistical coordination, since assets were made and animated in a range of software – Blender, Maya, and Marvelous Designer, C4D. The scenes were lit, textured, and rendered using Octane.”
