Try Hard, the first animated short film from the 2023 graduating class of Gobelins Paris premiered this morning with a passionate and ultimately emotional examination of what we are willing to sacrifice for ambition.

Using the rather meta device of two friends trying to win a coveted spot in an elite art school, co-directors Audrey Chevrolle, Yuha Cho, Hugo Lemonnier, Brian Lim, and Yuxi Zhouthe generate a lot of fun with an anime style while commenting on the entertainment industrial complex and delivering a heart-felt message about the all-conquering importance of friendship.
