ECD Erin Sarofsky reteams with showrunner Ken Woodruff (who she worked with on the NBC series The Enemy Within) to set a tone of tension and intrigue for the new spy thriller Butterfly, based on the graphic novel by Arash Amel.
Erin Sarofsky: “In crafting the main titles, we focused on themes that shaped every vignette. At the core was espionage but equally important was the cultural and emotional bridge between Korea and America, showing how these two worlds intersect and collide.
“We also built in high-energy action, paired with intimate character moments that reveal connections, conflicts, and growth, adding both intensity and emotional depth.
“Our goal was set the tone, build intrigue, and pull audiences into the world of Butterfly from the very first frame.”
“Animation was treated as more than a style choice: it was key to the storytelling. We wanted unexpected movement and bold transitions that surprised viewers, sustained their curiosity, and made the sequence feel alive.
“The goal was to create not just an introduction, but an immersive experience. Our goal was set the tone, build intrigue, and pull audiences into the world of Butterfly from the very first frame.
“Typographically, we aimed for a style that balanced action and technology. For the Butterfly logo, we chose Stratum, a versatile geometric sans serif that delivered the precision and strength we needed. The logotype sits against a butterfly silhouette built from dozens of firearms, a striking nod to the original graphic novel cover.”
