“Casus Boloss” Title and Series Animation

Designer/directors Cyril Calgaro and Valentin Nouvel combine forces to complete an irreverent animated title and episode package for geopolitical web series “Casus Boloss” found on Euro free-to-air television network ARTE.

Valentin Nouvel: “This project was written by Aurèl Jacquot and Matthieu Putzolu, two young writers who wanted to popularize complex geopolitical issues in a series of five-minute episodes.

“The original art direction was set by Cyril Calgaro, a motion designer who made the opening title of the series. Then I worked following that art direction to create and animate all the visuals of the series with an ironic approach.

“From the creative point of view, working with this kind of animation style was a first for me. It implies a lot of image research and it was also very technical since it implies a huge amount of elements (sometimes thousands of layers).

“Each of the 10 episodes had to be made in one week including all the image research, composition in photoshop, and animation. So it was a challenge on the production end as well.”
