CNN “The First Time I Realized I was Black”

Originally published in 1903, W.E.B. Du Bois’ classic work of American literature “The Souls of Black Folk” takes on renewed weight and relevance in this animated piece for the CNN series “The First Time I Realized I was Black”.

CNN designer/animator Melody Shih: “In ‘The Souls of Black Folk,’ W.E.B. Du Bois talks about the first time he realized his skin color made him different.

“CNN asked several celebrities, journalists, activists, and other public figures to share about the moment they first realized their skin color mattered.”
