How Does Dieter Rams Get Ready to Rock?

What would it look like if perpetually cool industrial designer Dieter Rams applied his beautifully functional aesthetic to the humble guitar pedal? London motion designer Connor Bannister has a go at imagining “What would Dieter do?”

Connor Bannister: “‘Less but Loud’ was driven by my longtime admiration for Rams’ iconic Braun designs and a desire to explore how minimalist product design, modern guitar pedals, and motion graphics can merge. The concept was to re-imagine a contemporary stompbox that channels that 60/70s Braun aesthetic: simple, elegant, and purposeful.

“‘Less but Loud’ was driven by my longtime admiration for Rams’ iconic Braun designs and a desire to explore how minimalist product design, modern guitar pedals and motion graphics can merge.”

“Creatively, I started by researching and sketching product designs that would feel authentic in Rams’ world, such as the dotted motif on the reverse of the pedal.

“The workflow involved 3D modeling and texturing in Cinema 4D with Redshift, pushing the visuals to achieve a clean, tactile, premium feel. The dial simulations and abstract shots were used to highlight the single-dial interface in a modern, cinematic way. Motion graphics and typography were added in After Effects for a layer of 2D interplay with the 3D renders.”
