Yeti Pictures in Athens (whose work we track here) helps the Greek government highlight the distress caused by loud fireworks on animals while presenting an alternative in this technically ambitious CG spot.
Tony Zagoraios, founder/CD at Yeti Pictures: “We were thrilled to contribute to such a meaningful cause, though the creative brief presented a unique challenge: designing fireworks that take the shape of animals.
“We dedicated a full week to intensive R&D, balancing creative ambition with a tight deadline. The technical hurdle was ensuring the firework bursts were recognizable as animals. We began by 3D modeling a dog, a cat, and a horse in frightened poses to serve as our base geometry.
“We dedicated a full week to intensive R&D, balancing creative ambition with a tight deadline.”
“Initially, we experimented with Cinema 4D and X-Particles, but we struggled to achieve the specific definition we envisioned. We pivoted to Houdini, developing a custom particle system that emitted bursts directly from the geometry’s points.
“This gave us the breakthrough we needed within just two days. Ultimately, we utilized a hybrid workflow, combining the structural precision of Houdini with the aesthetic of our initial X-Particles tests. To finalize the scene, we integrated pre-rendered VDB fireworks animation as secondary background elements to enhance the atmosphere and emotional impact.”
