Global Mechanic & AIM Creative “Push Forward” in Animated Campaign for UBC

Vancouver design and animation studio Global Mechanic teams with AIM Creative Studios in Portugal for a series of vibrant and painterly brand films for the University of British Columbia thru Canadian agency ONE23WEST.

Chris Brodie, EP at Global Mechanic: “The UBC Push Forward campaign was a nice challenge. With the deadline only 11 weeks away, the deck called for a sophisticated look: painterly, line-and-fill, and mixed media were tabled as solutions for the creative ask.

“Using too many tricks would undercut the call for sophistication, so a frame-by-frame animation approach was required to achieve the level of quality we desired.”

“After a rigorous design process, UBC was drawn toward the versatility and tactile nature of our painted mixed media option. Using too many tricks would undercut the call for sophistication, so a frame-by-frame animation approach was required to achieve the level of quality we desired.

“As production started, the media buys shifted, and we had to fast-track one spot for an early delivery. What would normally be a batched workflow became a sprint for the first spot, which had the added benefit of helping us work out some of the knots in our pipeline.”
