Hard Science: Dirty Work & Jamute “Beat Cancer Off”

Armed with hard science and a cheeky song, US non-profit Fuck Cancer encourages men to take their prostrate health in hand with a brilliant animated film from São Paulo studio Dirty Work and audio house Jamute thru agency VML Health.

Directors Gustavo Leal and Faga Melo at Dirty Work: “The concept is rooted in a striking scientific insight: men who ejaculate 21 or more times per month may reduce their risk of prostate cancer by up to 22%.

“The idea was to encourage the conversation through humor, leaning into double meanings and cultural nuance. That naturally led us to the core concept: collecting the weirdest and most entertaining expressions used around the world to talk about masturbation.

“In total, more than 50 artists contributed to the film, working across traditional 2D animation, cut-out, 3D, puppetry, and live action.”

“Using this as a foundation, we started building the lyrics. We wanted a cabaret-inspired track, with a showbiz, slightly Las Vegas feel. Structurally, the number 21 became our backbone, shaping the song through 21 different expressions.

“With the music defined, we moved into the visual concept. We wanted something that would add another layer to the idea, not just illustrate it. That’s when we landed on mixed media.

“The film brings together artists from different backgrounds, combining a wide range of animation techniques in a highly collaborative process. In total, more than 50 artists contributed to the film, working across traditional 2D animation, cut-out, 3D, puppetry, and live action.”
