Marie Lavis Sketches Up “Where Did My Diamond Go?” Music Video for Jacob Collier

Director/animator Marie Lavis continues her music video work for multi-Grammy winner Jacob Collier with her wonderfully loose and erratic hand-drawn interpretation of the track “Where Did My Diamond Go?”

Marie Lavis: “Jacob Collier and his team approached me with the idea of creating an animation for this track as part of the 10-year anniversary edition release of his album In My Room. The song was presented to me as a ‘sonorous sketching piece.’

“‘Where Did My Diamond Go?’ portrays a character caught in an unstoppable, unquenchable spiral, chasing something that can’t give them life, while missing the possibility of a true treasure.”

“The work was made entirely on an iPad, as time didn’t allow a project on paper. It was a completely different workflow from paper, forcing me to think differently, but it was equally interesting to explore. The challenge was to translate all these disparate sounds as faithfully as possible while building a narrative.”
