Lucas Durkheim has a Surprise “Fuk U” for the Bad Guys

Eddy director Lucas Durkheim indulges his obsession with action movies in this short, intense, and comedic glimpse into the work and family life of Coco, a rogue hit woman who finds plenty of satisfaction in her job.

Lucas Durkheim: “Action movies are my favorite thing. They never take themselves too seriously. I wanted to have fun creating an hommage to this genre.

“One element I wanted to experiment with was shadows. I played with a spotlight effect to give a theatrical dimension. Since I wanted to maintain an atmospheric perspective, I needed precision when it came to lightning on my characters. This inspired me, for future projects, to use light sources first-hand, directly in my storyboards.

“This project allowed me to be more absurd, to have fun and share that feeling with the audience. It made me realize how important comedy is, even with a tough subject.”

“Shadows were also present in the storytelling. The main character, Coco, remains hidden for the most part of the film. For more backstory, we added her mom’s voice on the radio. With these few elements and good timing, we were able to draw a bigger picture than what was showing on the screen.

“I always see my projects as features, from beginning to end – and most of all I want to make people laugh. Turning violence into something quite trivial is one way to do so.

“This project allowed me to be more absurd, to have fun and share that feeling with the audience. It made me realize how important comedy is, even with a tough subject. Fuk U is quite extreme, we switch from life to death in the same film. In that way, it made me want to experiment even more in the future.”
