Mixcode Opens “Million-Follower Detective” on Netflix

Mixcode Studio in Taipei, whose seemingly endless array of animation styles you can witness here, just dropped these illustration-based titles to open the Taiwanese crime-thriller Million-Follower Detective on Netflix.

EPs Chiunyi Ko and TuBo Lee at Mixcode: “This is a dream in search of answers. Along the way, we navigate through frames that echo key elements of the story. Tarot cards, phone screens, chat windows, doors, and mirrors.

“The sequence portrays the inner uncertainty experienced when seeking answers, while also echoing the suspenseful atmosphere of a mystery narrative.”

“Each reflects shifting perspectives and the inner struggles of its characters. Amid a flood of information and the immense pressure of collective scrutiny, people gradually lose their sense of direction.

“Through ever-shifting hand-drawn brushstrokes, colors, and de-characterized human silhouettes, the sequence portrays the inner uncertainty experienced when seeking answers, while also echoing the suspenseful atmosphere of a mystery narrative, where everyone is a suspect.

“Echoing the lighting and set design of the production, a deep blue base is accented with vibrant neon hues and stark contrasts of light and shadow, evoking the digital influencer era and an atmosphere of suspense and tension.”
