Panoply and Column Refresh the Seattle Sounders FC

Working with the design/brand development team at Column in Seattle, London CG masters Panoply serve up a dark and dramatic motion treatment as part of the identity refresh for the Seattle Sounders MLS club.

Panoply CD Mark Lindner: “Column came to us with a vision: they wanted a film that was not only engaging but deeply emotive. They wished for a narrative that celebrated the team’s storied heritage, showcased Seattle’s iconic landmarks, and captured the passion of its fan base.
 

“We aimed for abstract visuals that echoed the phrase ‘At the water’s edge’, a theme that resonated deeply with both Column and the Sounders team.”

 
“Our creative process was deeply influenced by the eclectic soul of Seattle but we wanted to steer away from the usual sports motifs. Instead, we aimed for abstract visuals that echoed the phrase ‘At the water’s edge’, a theme that resonated deeply with both Column and the Sounders team.

“This became our compass, guiding us to develop a visual narrative that flowed like water, underscored by an editing style reminiscent of the tide’s ebb and flow.

“On the technical front, this project provided us an opportunity to experiment with our new USD pipeline in Houdini (Solaris). What started as mere exploration soon became a cornerstone of our production, revealing its immense potential. We are thrilled by the doors this new workflow opens, particularly its compatibility with platforms like Unreal Engine and Apple’s Vision Pro.”
