Art&Graft and Kyra Bartley Disrupt the Definition of Dyslexia

The design and animation team at Art&Graft in London join forces with FINCH director Kyra Bartley to help global charity Made By Dyslexia hijack common perceptions and the wider definition of dyslexia.

Mike Moloney, ECD at Art&Graft: “Right now, when kids and parents search ‘What is dyslexia?’ online, they are told it is a disability or a lifelong learning disorder. Nine in 10 say this makes them feel hopeless or scared for their future. The problem is these descriptions fail to include dyslexics’ extraordinary strengths.

“The goal is to have millions of children and parents find the film it at the top of their search results and glimpse their bright futures.”

“To change this, we created this short animation (starring the voices of Jeremy Irons, Liv Tyler, Jaalan Best, Lee Perry, and young actress Hope Day) to hijack the search ‘What is dyslexia?’, so millions of children and parents find the film it at the top of their search results and glimpse their bright futures.

“We explored a hybrid animation style, with hand-drawn brush stroke animation weaving into 3D renders to unify the visual language and add an extra layer of texture. The result blends the hand-crafted quality of traditional animation with the depth and flexibility of 3D.”
