Not so Itsy Bitsy: Filmic Animation Spin Up a Spider Fantasy

The crew at Sweden’s Filmic Animation craft an intricate, carefully lit, and web-filled CG adventure in this TV/cinema spot for Stockholm amusement park Gröna Lund and their newest ride called Spindeln (The Spider).

From Filmic: “We helped Gröna Lund create a hero movie, showing the ride being built by a friendly and fuzzy spider – crafted entirely without AI. Just careful 3D hand animation and choreography, where every movement had to align perfectly between camera and our tiny dancing character.

“For the spider design, we searched for that delicate balance – cute, yet slightly creepy. The solution? More human-like movement, letting some legs stay still like a ballerina skirt or silhouette, while others took on the role of arms and legs. It’s always a joy working with ideas that are truly made for animation.”
