CG/VFX artist and designer Alejandro Robledo Mejia (aka RMA) – whose title credits include the Super Bowl, and several Marvel properties – packs this opening sequence for the FITC 2024 event with lots of shiny symbolism based on the creative process.
Alejandro Robledo Mejia: “The piece explores the complex relationship between time and creativity, using symbolism such as a white canvas, vibrant flowers, menacing snakes, and crystals. It delves into the artist’s journey from potentiality to creation, encountering challenges and limitations along the way.
“Fear and time are depicted as omnipresent forces driving artistic growth, while introspection and reflection play crucial roles in the creative process. The artwork culminates in the imagery of a ticking clock fracturing to reveal a crystal, symbolizing the transformative power of overcoming constraints to achieve artistic expression and innovation.
“Beneath the constraints of time and fear lies a glimmer of hope and a transcendent state that enhances the artist’s mode of expression. While time may serve as a formidable obstacle, it also catalyzes artistic evolution and innovation.”
“A place were ideas bloom is visualized by roses breaking through white plainness. The blooms are met by chains, snakes and sharp diamonds representing challenges in creative endeavors. These crystalline forms embody a dual symbolism, representing both a contemplation of past and future works and a reflection of the artist’s inner essence during the act of creation.
“Though many flowers may bloom, only a few find their gem. This is a metaphor for finding your purpose. Only those who are brave enough to fight through the creative struggle are met with rewards.
“The hopeful take away: Beneath the constraints of time and fear lies a glimmer of hope and a transcendent state that enhances the artist’s mode of expression. While time may serve as a formidable obstacle, it also catalyzes artistic evolution and innovation.”
