Bark&Bite Takes Croc’s “Off Court” and Into Print

Inspired by print magazines and fanzines, the design and animation crew at Bark&Bite in London say they “aimed at pulling on nostalgic heartstrings” in their first work for Crocs.

Chris Hislop, new business director at Bark&Bite: “From music to skateboarding, art to fashion, every pastime has or had a publication representing its fans and providing them with the regular content they crave. This concept frames the ‘Off Court’ theme on front covers that call out the shoe’s unique features.

“Rather than work up storyboards, we paired designers with 3D artists and tasked them with crafting short vignettes that captured as many differing styles as possible.”

“The intention for the animation was to have the shoes act as protagonists on a journey through a bold and diverse paper playground. The juxtaposition of the 3D product in a flat, 2D environment challenged the team in terms of getting maximum fun and engagement into the piece.

“Our approach was a little different from normal. Rather than work up storyboards, we paired designers with 3D artists and tasked them with crafting short vignettes that captured as many differing styles as possible. The vignettes with the most potential were developed as standalone short-form content and we then used them to cut together the 30 second film.”
