Herman Miller’s timeless Aeron chair escapes its designation as a cool but staid classic in this exuberant and beautifully lit spec spot from Seoul-based CG and motion designer Changhoon Nam.

Changhoon Nam: “The process began by deconstructing the Aeron’s features. I then built a rough sequence by considering the actual movement and direction of each function. To create natural transitions, I grouped features that operate on a similar axis of movement.

“During the storyboarding phase, I aimed to incorporate a flat, graphic aesthetic reminiscent of Herman Miller’s vintage posters. Although the visuals are 3D, I used an orthographic camera to eliminate perspective and enhance this 2D graphic feel.
 

“It was a balancing act between creating dynamic, engaging movements and clearly explaining the chair’s actual functions.”

 
“The primary challenge was creating motion that perfectly synchronized with the energetic soundtrack (“Funk U” by Reaktor from PremiumBeat). It was a balancing act between creating dynamic, engaging movements and clearly explaining the chair’s actual functions.

“I dedicated significant time to syncing micro-animations with specific beats and sound cues. While the real-life movements of the chair’s adjustment levers are subtle, I aimed to exaggerate them dramatically for visual impact.

“For the art direction, I started with a calm, almost monochromatic color palette that complements the Aeron’s design, then progressively introduced more vibrant colors as the sequence unfolds.”
