With an OCD-level of attention to lighting and rendering, art director Rui Figueiredo and his studio rfvisuals in South Korea elevate YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture lipstick into an objet d’art and a virtual icon of luxury.

Rui Figueiredo: “This project started with a request for a series of small looping animations to visually represent the high-end and striking nature of the product. We quickly realized the initial impressions of this film should invoke a bold yet confident product: ‘Desire driven by luxury’.

“To achieve such evocation we first dove into R&D, playing with what makes such an image of luxury; high-end materials, strong imagery, and a balance between craftsmanship and playful ethereal sensations. Our focus steered towards visually showing the benefits of a hydrating sensation and a feeling of intense comfort.
 

“We loved paying close attention to the fine details of the product and the freedom to represent its surface imperfections, such as scratches, fingerprints, and dust, which allowed us to achieve a photo-realistic look.”

“Moving between plush fabrics contrasted with rocky formations while still maintaining the bold signature shape of the product proved to be a unique challenge: boldness and harmony. Showcasing complex subjects imposed onto clean backgrounds elevated our designs, giving us the edge to tie these two concepts together.”
