Frame48 Reintroduces the Play:1 Smart Speaker for Sonos

ECD Tom Teller and the Frame48 3D motion crew take on the brief to reintroduce the redesigned Sonos Play:1 wireless smart speaker (first introduced in 2013) with this tasteful, upbeat, and carefully lit brand film.

Tom Teller: “The Sonos home ecosystem is built into people’s day-to-day lives, so we wanted to create a film that felt grounded in those familiar spaces, while letting it evolve into something more fluid and free – the same sound, now able to move with you in and out of the home.

“We built a flexible, procedural system in Houdini that let sound subtly push and pull the environment in 3D space, through light shifts and motion, while keeping the product grounded and accurate.”

“When visualizing sound, it has become less about creating literal sound rings and more about communicating the feeling of audio. We built a flexible, procedural system in Houdini that let sound subtly push and pull the environment in 3D space, through light shifts and motion, while keeping the product grounded and accurate.

“We leaned into a slightly surreal version of reality, where skies became gradients that hinted at time of day or mood, and transitions felt like a continuous flow from one space to the next. The result is a piece that feels less like separate moments and more like one continuous experience within the Sonos ecosystem.”
