Monografo Open “La Revuelta” With Character & Chaos

The team at motion studio MonoGrafo layer up a chaotic chase through the streets of Mardid in this title sequence for La Revuelta, a popular Spanish comedy and interview talk show broadcast on RTVE’s La 1 channel.

Fernando Marcilla, CD at Monografo: Beyond the race between the host David Broncano and the giant drum, we wanted to avoid a conventional narrative or a rigidly planned sequence. In that way, the plan was not to have a plan.

Instead, we approached the opening almost as an exercise in automatic writing: starting with a few ideas, drawing and animating them, and letting each new image suggest the next one.

The edit became the place where we built situations, visual gags, unexpected connections and small absurdities – putting shots together and seeing what emerged. Rather than following a storyboard, the sequence grew organically through experimentation, constantly adding, removing, and reshaping elements.

Visually, the sequence was built through a very hands-on process. Most of the artwork was painted in Procreate and then animated in Procreate Dreams, allowing us to keep the texture, looseness and imperfections of hand-drawn animation. We also introduced a few 3D elements, which were then integrated with the illustrated material.

Everything was composited in After Effects, using the edit as the main tool for creating rhythm and cohesion. The final piece is the result of accumulating layers — drawings, animation, 3D, compositing, visual accidents — until they started to form a coherent world of their own.
