After an impressive run of character-based short films (see here and here) Jake Wegesin and Frankie Principe at Ambient Press, tackle their first branded spec project, a snappy and carefully rendered film for British folding bicycle brand Brompton.
Jake Wegesin and Frankie Principe: “Whether we are building new worlds or bringing characters to life, our work has always centered on the imaginative and emotional side of things. As such, product videos have not been one of our focuses. But when a product inspires creativity and experimentation, we are eager to take a deeper look.
“That is what drew us to Brompton and their range of folding bikes. As fans of the brand, we were fascinated by a machine that is not just a tool for transport but a compact, transformative design built with both imagination and purpose. It is adaptable. Playful. Inventive.
“Like with our narrative short films, the piece was guided by principles of bold movement, rhythm, and visual storytelling, carrying the viewer from moment to moment.”
“We approached this as a chance to echo the values we associate with Brompton: versatility, momentum, and originality. This animation follows the bike’s own journey, from the first spark of an idea building into a complete product.
“Our goal with this spec piece was to create something quick, captivating, and full of personality. Inspired by an expansive color palette and unique design language, we created motion studies, simulations, and transitions to inject as much energy as possible into the animation.
“Like with our narrative short films, the piece was guided by principles of bold movement, rhythm, and visual storytelling, carrying the viewer from moment to moment. Even in a product-centered video, we wanted to preserve the playfulness and emotion that typically define our work.
“Our philosophy remains unchanged: story first, wonder second. When those elements align, the rest often follows naturally. We will continue looking out for how best to bring that ethos and execution into the world of product animation.”
