If you need something unexpected and unexplainable to break you out of a creative rut, a quick shot of this short film/music video – a delirious riot by Japanese animator Yoko Yuki – maybe the jump start you’re looking for.
Powered by the insane track “In the Big Yard Inside the Teeny-Weeny Pocket” by Japanese electronic/experimental artist honninman, and produced thru animation artist Koji Yamamura’s Au Praxinoscope studio in Tokyo, the film was a favorite on the festival circuit, winning the Grand Prize at Tokyo TDC Awards among others.
And just to add to the delerium, here’s Yoko Yuki on the film: “When it shrinks, it expands. It floats and it sinks. It separates but connects. When I think I’m watching them, they’re actually watching me. A charming animation rhyme that weaves together the many days of observing, recording, and experimenting.”
