Kirsten Lepore & Mathematic Do “Whatever It Takes To Get Through The Day” for Finch

Prettybird director (and Oscar-nominee/Emmy-winner) Kirsten Lepore works with the animation crew at Mathematic and ex-droga5 ECD Kevin Weir to channel the many eccentricities of personal wellness for self-care app Finch.

Kevin Weir, ECD at Weirwork: “The team at Finch really encouraged us to get weird and dark, which we were quite happy to do. It takes a brave client to introduce their (adorably sincere) bird app to the world with a film that talks about how we’re all hanging on by a thread over a pit of despair.

“From the first time we met with Kirsten, we could tell she understood this idea deep in her bones. She brought so much heart and strangeness to this little commercial.”

“We wanted to push the bounds of where this bird could go, while also making sure that our world felt like something that the current Finch users would love and see themselves in.”

Mark Bielik, CD at Weirwor: “From the first time we met with Kirsten, we could tell she understood this idea deep in her bones. She brought so much heart and strangeness to this little commercial, every step of the way.

“The song that we ended up with [by composer Ava Matasavagewith at Human] was actually the first demo we ever heard. We deliberately chose not to do any kind of AI song generation early on (even to sell the idea) because we wanted the chance to fall in love with something real.”

A claymation-style character in a bathrobe stands in a kitchen, looking worried while talking on the phone. Outside the window, a giant pink monster appears in a colorful city—echoing Kirsten Lepore’s whimsical touch. TV and laptop display news alerts. Frame from Stash Magazine article.

A cartoon character with glasses sits on a toilet, looking at a phone, echoing the quirky style of Kirsten Lepore. With white tiled walls, a toilet brush, and two pink toilet paper rolls on the tank, it feels almost mathematic in its composition. Frame from Stash Magazine article.

A person wearing glasses does a mathematic yoga pose on a mat in a living room while balancing three babies in blue onesies on their back and leg. Toys, blocks, and a train are scattered around the room à la Kirsten Lepore's playful style. Frame from Stash Magazine article.

A claymation-style character with brown hair and a headband sits on a washing machine in a cozy laundry room, surrounded by laundry baskets and folded clothes, as soft sunlight shines in—a whimsical scene reminiscent of Kirsten Lepore’s charming touch. Frame from Stash Magazine article.

A pink, cartoonish monster with three eyes and blue tentacles towers over pastel city buildings, some on fire—like a scene from a Kirsten Lepore animation. Fluffy clouds drift above, and a tiny Finch stands bravely on the monster’s head. Frame from Stash Magazine article.
